ACR Guidelines

In October 2012, the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) published its long anticipated “Guidelines for the Management of Gout.” In September 2015, ACR expanded on the existing guidelines and released new classification criteria about gout.

The 2012 American College of Rheumatology Guidelines on the Management of Gout is divided into two parts. Part I of the Guidelines deals with non-pharmacologic (including lifestyle changes) and pharmacologic approaches to treating hyperuricemia. Part II addresses therapy for acute gout flares and anti-inflammatory coverage when initiating urate-lowering therapy.
